Tribeca Film Festival 2019 Announces Short Film Slate
The Tribeca Film Festival recently announced the Short Film lineup for the 18th edition, which will take place April 24 — May 5 in New York City. Pass and packages are on sale now. Single tickets on sale March 26.
The short films program at Tribeca continues to be an ideal launching pad for creative visions. The 2019 Oscar winner for Best Animated Short Film — Bao, directed by Domee Shi — world premiered at last year’s Festival.
This year’s lineup consists of 63 short films in 11 distinct competition programs (6 narrative, 4 documentary, 1 animation), curated from a record 5,131 submissions. The section includes 31 world premieres and welcomes both international and U.S. filmmakers, with female filmmakers directing 45% of the selections. Notable actors featured in the program include Lorraine Bracco, Brian Dennehy, Veronica Dunne, Brianna Hildebrand,Amanda Plummer, Bella Ramsey, and Keenan Thompson.
Whoopi Goldberg, once again curates the animated section and returning this year are comedy and sci-fi as well as the New York Shorts Program, plus new programs that are music-focused, female-focused and targeted for late-night.
There will also be special screening programs for the annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival and the debut of shorts from the Queen Collective, a program developed with Procter & Gamble, aimed at accelerating gender and racial equality behind the camera.
