Comedian Tina Fey and Don Katz founder and CEO of Audible, Inc. were honored by New York Stage and Film at their winter gala this week. Attending the dinner at Pier Sixty with the hope of scoring some tickets to Hamilton — yes, still — I was soon apprised that the bidding for them started at $4,000. I could dream on.

This was a night for funny with Tina Fey feted, introduced by Andrea Martin, and with Dana Delany introducing Don Katz. Tina Fey’s posse included some funny women Carol Kane and Ellie Kemper. But first an incredible line up of actors including John Slattery and Jayne Houdyshell read vignettes to illustrate the magic of Audible.

I ran into Laura Osnes, the star of last year’s Broadway musical Bandstand, and her co-star Corey Cott. The Bandstand table also included c who played Laura’s mother, and who is currently playing Miss Hannigan in an Annie revival. The large room was chockablock with theater folk eager to support this organization that nurtures them in every respect, giving playwrights, actors, directors, and all, room to fail, and succeed. A case in point: Hamilton

Tina Fey is coming to Broadway with a show based on her 2004 cult movie Mean Girls, opening in April 2018. Tickets were auctioned, as were tickets to attend any Saturday Night Live in 2018. The auctioneer offered tickets to Springsteen: “You can’t buy tickets for The Boss, but you can get them from me,” he cried out smugly, and sold off two pairs, at $8,000 apiece. Yes, I dream on.
