Surviving The Holidays With Low-Proof Cocktails

As the holidays are quickly coming upon us, party invitations are starting to flow. Soon as the celebratory events begin, drinks and cocktails are sure to follow. Low proof cocktails are the only way to go as you head into the holiday season, ensuring that you get through the holidays in the same shape as you began.

Mixologists such as Dante’s Naren Young, whose bar program revolves around the European style of aperitivo, suggests choosing a spritz or a punch style cocktail during holiday party season. This style of cocktail allows people to continue to enjoy themselves even after a few drinks, and still feel refreshed the following day, no matter how late of a night. Creating a cocktail using a base of low-proof spirits such as sherry, liqueurs or vermouths like Martini & Rossi, allows mixologists to create unique and refreshing flavor combinations without overpowering high-proof alcohols.

1 oz. Martini & Rossi Rosso

1 oz. Martini & Rossi Riserva Speciale Bitter

METHOD: Build on 3 ice cubes

Top with Martini & Rossi Prosecco

GLASS: Stemmed Goblet

GARNISH: Orange wedge on skewer + edible gold

THE ST-GERMAIN SPRITZ

2 parts Martini & Rossi Prosecco

1½ parts St-Germain French elderflower liqueur

2 parts sparkling Water

Method: Fill a tall Collins glass with ice. Add Martini & Rossi Prosecco first, then St-Germain, then Club Soda (the order is essential). Stir completely and garnish with a lemon twist.

1 oz. Martini & Rossi dry

¼ oz. maraschino

1 barspoon Pernod absinthe

3 dashes orange bitters

1 dash Angostura bitters

METHOD: Stir & strain

GLASS: Nick & Nora

GARNISH: Jasmine water + baby’s breath
