Seven Scotch Cocktails To Celebrate National Scotch Day All Summer Long

In case you forgot to mark it on your calendar, today, Saturday, July 27 is National Scotch Day, and in 2019 it falls on the 525th anniversary of that fateful day in 1494 when Scotland’s whiskies were first taxed. Today there are more than 350 distilleries barrel aging and bottling what has become one of the most drinkable and collectable of all distilled spirits. Here are seven recipes for you to enjoy to celebrate the day:

TALISKER 57

Ingredients

1.25 oz Talisker 10 Year Old

0.25 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

0.75 oz Simple syrup

Champagne for top

Preparation

Combine Talisker 10 Year Old, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well.

Strain contents into a Flute glass.

Fill to top with champagne and garnish with a twist.

Ingredients

1.5 oz The Singleton of Glendullan 12 Year Old

0.75 oz Lime juice

0.5 oz Simple syrup

3 slices cucumber

3 to 4 Mint leaves

Glassware: Rocks

Garnish: Cucumber, mint

Preparation

Add all ingredients into a shaker, gently muddle the cucumber and mint. Add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass and garnish.

Ingredients

1.5 oz. Johnnie Walker Black Label

1.5 oz. Guava Nectar Juice

0.25 oz. Lime Juice

4 oz. Tonic Water

Glassware: Balloon Glass

Garnish: Thyme Sprig

Preparation

Add all ingredients into glass except for tonic. Add ice and stir to chill. Top off with tonic and garnish.

Black Label Coconut Highball

Ingredients

1.5oz Johnnie Walker Black Label

1oz Sweet Vermouth

3oz Coconut Sparkling Water

Garnish: Orange Slice

Glassware: Highball

Method:

Combine all ingredients over cubed ice in a highball glass. Top with an orange slice.

The Golden Dram

INGREDIENTS

2 oz Aberfeldy 12 Single Malt Scotch whisky

2 barspoons (0.5oz) of local honey syrup*

* Honey Syrup: 100g of honey and 64g water, stir and leave to chill. Note: syrup will only last 3 days

2 dashes Angostura bitters

2 dashes orange bitters

METHOD

Add the honey syrup, bitters and Aberfeldy 12 to a mixing glass, then add ice and stir to dilute (~30 seconds). Pour into rocks glass and add block ice, then garnish with an orange twist expressing the oils over the drink.

Glenfiddich Monte Carlo

2 parts Glenfiddich 14 Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve

½ part Benedectine

4 dashes Angostura bitters

Orange twist, to garnish

Method

In a mixing glass, combine all ingredients except the orange twist. Stir over ice. Strain into a double rocks glass over ice. Express the orange twist over the drink and drop in.

The Glenlivet Coco Breezy

1 ½ parts The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve

2 parts coconut water

Instructions

Combine ingredients in a glass over ice.

Stir well and enjoy.
