PANGAIA Introduces PLNT FIBER™ & FRUT FIBER™ Alternative Fabrics to Cotton
PANGAIA is pleased to announce the next step of its material innovation strategy with the introduction of two new fabric alternatives. Today the brand introduces PLNT FIBERTM and FRUT FIBERTM, two proprietary blends that are made entirely from plant fibers. This innovation is the brand’s latest step to delivering alternatives to overproduced materials such as cotton.
The fashion industry’s reliance on conventionally sourced non-organic cotton and fossil fuel based synthetics continues to be problematic due to the nature of these raw materials: on average, about 10,000 liters of water are required to grow just 1kg of conventionally used cotton, and synthetics are usually made from petrochemicals, a non renewable resource difficult to dispose of responsibly.
While both these materials feature undeniable qualities important to the textile industry, our global over-reliance on these materials and the lack of diversity in textiles commonly used are increasing their negative impact.
The introduction of PLNT FIBERTM and FRUT FIBERTM adds to PANGAIA’s portfolio of material innovations and represents a true embodiment of the brand’s commitment to its material philosophy — “high-tech naturalism”. The new blends which contain no cotton, will be available in a range of extra soft and relaxed PANGAIA products which following the initial release, will be made readily available for use by brand partners.
PLNT FIBERTM and FRUT FIBERTM further PANGAIA’s commitment to delivering problem solving science you can wear. The new range which is derived from plant and agricultural waste continues the brand’s focus of leveraging materials that offer an alternative to the industry’s over reliance on mono-cropped cotton and fossil fuel based synthetics
