Last weekend in the Hamptons were beautiful, sunny and less rainy than some of the recent weekends we have been out east. While many of the East End regulars were enjoying the good weather, some of our favorite players left the typical scene and opted to go to Fire Island.

Also known as the Pines, Fire Island is a mecca for all things young and all things celebrated, which is why we were surprised to catch Southampton’s Queen, Jean Shafiroff and her good friend, NYS Assemblywoman, Rebecca Seawright on the island.

We caught up briefly with the busy philanthropist and she shared, “it was a fun time and it was good to support the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) with Rebecca.” Jean also has a personal connection to this organization as she has lost a family member to the fight of HIV/AIDS. “In New York City we kind of live in our world, but outside of here, it’s a very different world for many people.”

After the HRC event, the power duo went to the Callen-Lorde summer pool party, also on Fire Island. Shafiroff was asked to speak to the group last-minute and shared her insight about the importance of understanding, supporting each other and how philanthropy guides us in all of our lives.

Shafiroff and Seawright have been spending a significant amount of time together, the pair was also spotted two weekends ago in East Hampton at the UNCF Summer Benefit. We’ll be keeping an eye out to see how these two close out their summer, but more importantly how they give back and inspire the many people that they come across.
