Grammy-nominated funk rock pioneer Nona Hendryx presents the second annual Rock Solid Women’s Festival: Celebrating Women in Art & Music, presenting a radically inclusive lineup of poets, singers, songwriters, and Comediennes at Gramercy Theatre (127 East 23rd) May 9th . The festival lineup includes Hendryx, Be Steadwell, Divinity Roxx, Judy Gold, Kiki Hawkins, Kimberly Nichole, Sarah Jaffe, Sophia Ramos, Ultra Naté, Vivian Sessoms, and Liza Colby.

After three sold out nights at Joes Public Theatre in 2018, 2019 is bringing Rock Solid Women to The Gramercy Theatre where the roof will surely be raised by some inspiring and incredible artists. These women are those who “give you back your experience” as one man said.

Hendryx describes the Rock Solid Woman as one who “mines and tends our feminine emotions and refines them with her art. And sometimes for the first time, because she expressed the essence of them, she makes it possible for you to recognize and know them. And once you know, you just might be able to begin to change them. Female singers are like ‘effigies,’ they provide us with a ‘surrogate for the original’ or what’s missing.” In kind, Hendryx invokes the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements with this festival and creates a platform where women’s voices can be heard and celebrated.

Beyond her own projects, Hendryx is utilizing her platform to present artists that are “antithetical to the ‘normal, expected and accepted,’ the status quo. The fearless are creatively restless, they push the boundaries, provoke, shock, endeavor to achieve a transcending effect, an awakening, evolving into something new.” Hendryx exalts the Rock Solid Woman as one who “mines and tends our feminine emotions and refines them with her art… She makes it possible for you to recognize and know them. And once you know, you just might be able to begin to change them.”
