Inside Vanessa Lam’s NYC Debut With Bombay Sapphire & Artsy
Last night, the 8th Annual BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Artisan Series Winner, Vanessa Lam, unveiled her contemporary exhibit, “There Is Another Sky”, in collaboration with the innovative global arts platform Artsy.
Opening to the public at 168 Bowery from June 7 — June 18 (11PM-7PM), Vanessa’s exhibit explores the relationship between form and space. Guests at the VIP opening enjoyed craft Bombay Sapphire cocktails (recipes below) inspired by Vanessa’s new pieces while viewing the exhibit.
Now in its ninth year, the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series is a nationwide search for the best up-and-coming names in visual arts. After beating out 13 artists from across North America during Miami Art Basel this past December at the finale event hosted by actress and producer Issa Rae, Vanessa unveiled a new series of work in a variety of different mediums including painting, sculpture, and collage.
Taking place in the bustling Bowery neighborhood, Lam’s exhibit took over Open House Gallery, where a wraparound sculpture inspired by her work transformed the entrance of the building. Using a variety of practices including gestural brushwork, assemblage, and nontraditional tools, Vanessa’s eight-piece exhibit examines the spontaneity and influence of the unconscious.
