On Saturday, June 30, 2018, the Seaport District held its first-ever Color Block Party which marked the official launch of Seaport Summer, an exciting mix of events and activations happening all summer long down at the Seaport.

The event, powered by art and the creative spirit of attendees who were encouraged to express themselves by wearing head-to-toe color block, highlighted the unveiling of a colorful one-of-a-kind installation by acclaimed artist, GERONIMO, who revealed a new, site-specific work overlooking the East River, based on her trademark massive-scale, colorful sculptures made of air-inflated balloons.

GERONIMO made her grand entrance in full color-block attire with a marching band in tow to kick off the day’s festivities and unveil her latest installation of vibrant balloons — her first semi-permanent display that overlooks the East River on Pier 17.

Generally known for its ephemeral tone and biodegradable composition, GERONIMO’s work at Pier 17 is made of a newly engineered material, composed from recyclables, that will allow visitors to enjoy basking under the sculpture on the water’s edge until the end of the summer.

The day followed with performances from DJ Brittany Sky, where an epic attendee dance battle occurred, followed by headliner Cut Copy. Guests were able to feast upon the food menu at the newly-opened Market Hall, and enjoy small plates from various food trucks onsite, in addition to refreshing cocktails at both the Market Hall bar and Heineken Riverdeck kiosks.

At the end of the evening, Cut Copy and Geronimo announced the winners of various prizes amounting to $10,000, including a gift card to the highly-anticipated opening of 10 Corso Como.
