The Radical Generosity Gala on Monday night was a memorable night for some, but many guests that entered the Plaza Hotel witnessed actual radicals and demonstrators just outside the famous stairway.

The New York Women’s Foundation celebrated the anniversary of the #MeToo movement on Monday night while the protesters outside were demonstrating against former New York Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett.

Despite the disturbance outside, 300 guests attended the annual event, which was co-chaired by Jean Shafiroff and Lola C. West and raised funds to support The Foundation’s work investing in women’s leadership and bold, community-led solutions to create an equitable and just future for women and families.

The gala honored activist actress Alyssa Milano, Nashville country duo Haley & Michaels — who were all presented with an award by #MeToo founder Tarana Burke.

A total of $840,000 was awarded to eight community-based organizations from around the country working to end sexual violence, promote the healing of survivors, and uplift their leadership.
