Enjoy The Vintage of a Lifetime from Guigal wines
The year was 2015. “In 55 years, I’ve never see anything like it,” said Marcel Guigal, second generation family owner of Rhône Valley winery E. Guigal, of the 2015 grape growing season. Everything was perfect, it was sunny when it needed to be sunny, it rained when it needed to rain, and it was windy when it needed to be windy. These perfect conditions in 2015 yielded Guigal’s vintage of a lifetime.
Long anticipated, due to the Guigal family’s tradition of holding onto wines longer before releasing them, the 2015 wines are making their debut in the US this spring. Guigal’s stars of the year, the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Rouge, 2015 Crozes-Hermitage, and 2015 Saint-Joseph, are readily available at retail nationwide, ranging from everyday value to elevated occasion wines, all expressive of the exceptional quality of the Rhône Valley and exemplary of the 2015 vintage.
2015 Côtes du Rhône Rouge ($15; and in magnum(!) for $35) — One of the world’s best value red wines made in the Northern Rhône style forgoes a traditional, lighter-style Grenache-based blend for a focus on bold Syrah. It is an especially full bodied, intense red with an exceptional value for the price. Enjoy this aromatically intense red with BBQ flavors and spices at your next magnum-sized backyard gathering.
2015 Crozes-Hermitage Rouge ($25) — This wine is a gateway to luxury wine with an approachable price tag. Using the Northern Rhône’s signature varietal, Syrah, the Crozes-Hermitage evokes wonderful warm flavors of red and black fruit and the typical Syrah pepper, spice and savory notes. Pairs perfectly with red meats and cheese as you wind down during chilly spring nights.
2015 Saint-Joseph Rouge ($35) — Layered with flavors of red berries and oak aromas, the Saint-Joseph Rouge is more supple and gentler than the Crozes-Hermitage but still boasts spectacular elegance and complexity. Delicately balanced, this wine pairs with grilled meat or can be enjoyed on its own.
Grab these Northern Rhone wines with both hands and don’t let go. 2015 is a can’t-miss vintage you will want to share.
