Enjoy Shackleton Whisky On World Environment Day
World Environment Day is today, June 5th and is the United Nation’s principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Not all brands can say that they support initiatives to sustain our world, but Shackleton Whisky is different from the rest.
Year round, Shackleton Whisky donates a contribution of sales to the Antarctic Heritage Trust New Zealand (www.NZAHT.org) to support the ongoing care of Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic base and the organization’s mission to conform to the principles, purposes and spirit of the Antarctic Treaty and the protocol of the Environmental Protection of Antarctica. Since 1998, the protocol designates Antarctica as a natural reserve, devoted to peace and science.
Launched in fall of 2017, Shackleton was created to honor Sir Ernest Shackleton and his 1907 expedition into the British Antarctic. In 2007, nearly a century later, the crates that were left behind from the legendary expedition were uncovered and Master Distiller Richard Paterson set himself the challenge of recreating the notes of notes of fresh tropical fruits, baked bread, and toffee in the liquid.
The whisky is crafted from 100% Highland Malt whiskies, uniquely married for an extended period of time in a combination of ex-bourbon American White oak barrels and Spanish Sherry butts. The liquid is best enjoyed over ice to complement the bold highland flavors.
