Celebrate National Watermelon Day with these refreshing cocktails

This National Watermelon Day, August 3rd, 2020, honor America’s favorite melon by drinking all the bright pink cocktails you can find. Great for large-format drinks and mixed alongside summer herb favorites like basil, rosemary, and cilantro, watermelon’s juicy mouthfeel works well in both sweet and savory cocktails alike.

Consisting of 92% water, natural sugars, and vitamins A and C, watermelon is the ultimate staple for summer cocktails because it will actually help you stay hydrated and replenished as we head into the dog days of summer.

Get ready to set your boring watermelon slice aside and indulge in the many creative ways to sip this luscious fruit.

Summer Watermelon Sparkle

1 oz CÎROC Summer Watermelon

1/2 oz Cranberry Juice

1 oz Champagne to top

1/4 oz Elderflower Liqueur if desired

Watermelon Skin Twist for garnish


1 Pour the CIROC Watermelon and cranberry juice into a flute glass.

2 Top with champagne

3 Garnish with a Watermelon skin twist.

Summer Watermelon Picante


2oz CÎROC Summer Watermelon

.5oz agave nectar

2 slices of Serrano pepper, Handful of cilantro

GARNISH: Watermelon slice & cilantro


1 Combine all ingredients and ice. Shake and then strain into a rocks glass.

2 Garnish with sprig of cilantro and watermelon slice.

D’USSE Watermelon Spritz


1.5 parts D’USSE VSOP

0.5 part Aperol

2 parts fresh watermelon juice

0.5 part simple syrup

0.5 part fresh lemon juice

1 part Sparkling Wine


Watermelon ball skewer & orange peel


Add D’USSE, Aperol, watermelon juice, simple syrup and lemon juice into a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into an ice filled wine glass. Top with Sparkling Wine. Garnish with a watermelon ball skewer and orange peel.

JAJA Pink Panther


2 parts JAJA Tequila Blanco

3.5 parts Watermelon Juice (or 3 chunks of muddled watermelon)

1 small slice of Jalapeño (can be omitted)

0.5 part Simple Syrup


Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake hard. Strain into a glass over fresh ice and garnish with a slice of watermelon and a lime.

Drink Notes

The watermelon can be juiced prior to guests arriving and you can pre-batch the cocktail. The inclusion of jalapeño definitely gives this Panther its bite but it can be omitted if the imbiber is hot enough.

Cutwater Spirits Rayador Tequila Watermelon Margarita


2 oz Cutwater Rayador Tequila Blanco

1 oz fresh lime juice

1/2 oz agave syrup

1/2 oz watermelon juice

*optional dash of spicy bitters


Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker.

Shake until cold and strain over fresh ice in a Tajin rimmed glass.

Garnish with a watermelon slice.

Salted Watermelon Lemonade


2 ounces of Seagram’s Watermelon Vodka

2 ounces of Lemonade

1 ounce soda

Tajin salt rim

Garnish slice of watermelon


Rim glass with Tajin

Add lemonade and Seagram’s Watermelon Vodka

Stir then top with soda and garnish with a watermelon slice

Grilled Watermelon Margarita

1oz Cointreau

2oz Tequila

1oz Fresh Lime Juice

.5oz Grilled Watermelon Syrup

.5oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice


Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake and fine strain over ice into Tajin-salted rocks glass (3:1 Tajin to kosher salt) Garnish with a lime wheel.

Watermelon Syrup

Cut watermelon into slices and grill until both sides of the watermelon have grill marks. After letting cool, blend simple syrup (1:1) and then fine strain.

The Frozen Watermelon Margarita

1oz Cointreau

2oz Tequila or Mezcal

1oz Fresh Lime Juice

.75 oz Watermelon Syrup*

5–7 Ice Cubes


Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend to combine. Pour into a margarita glass with salt or chili salt.

Watermelon Syrup

Add half of a cup of cubed watermelon and one fourth cup of simple syrup (1:1 sugar to water) to a blender and puree.

*Option to add watermelon to blender and .25oz of simple syrup

Absolut Watermelon Martini


1½ oz Absolut Vodka

⅔ oz Simple Syrup

4 Pieces Watermelon

4 Pieces Watermelon

How to mix

Muddle all ingredients in a shaker. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a watermelon wedge.
