Alfie’s Bar & Kitchen Hell’s Kitchen Eatery Refreshes Beloved Menu & Introduces Chef Darren Pettigrew

Alfie’s Bar & Kitchen, the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood favorite that just celebrated its eight-year anniversary, has elected Executive Chef Darren Pettigrew to helm the stove, spotlighting a brand-new and refreshed New American Gastro Pub menu.

The restaurant is owned by seasoned restauranteur, Sean Hayden, whose career spans 25 years and serves as a partner of the SRP NYC restaurant group (Valerie, Dalton’s and Jasper’s Tap House & Kitchen). Hayden saw a need to create a true restaurant experience for the community and was the first to bring a more sophisticated American kitchen to the neighborhood.

Now Chef Pettigrew will be providing Alfie’s beloved customers with a new and improved dining experience complete with elevated New American dishes, spotlighting locally sourced organic ingredients.

Dublin-born chef Darren Pettigrew was trained in London at the Da Vere Grand Connaught Rooms and grew up working in the kitchens of New York.

Throughout his career he has donned the stove at countless New York established restaurants honing his skills in the kitchen and continually pushing the envelope with more creative takes on everyday dishes. He previously owned seafood restaurant Stella Maris in South Street Seaport for five years. He also spent a number of years working with famed restauranteurs Peter and Harry Poulakakos at their Financial District properties.

Now he serves as the Executive Chef for the SRP NYC restaurant group, developing innovative menus for their various concepts.

Executive Chef Darren Pettigrew dinner menu commences with an array of starters such as the Green Chickpea & Avocado Hummus, which is light and creamy, served with garden vegetable crudité and grilled whole wheat za’atar, dusted with dukkah spice. Burrata is a fan favorite with a gorgeous plating of Vermont’s Maplebrook Farm burrata, marcona almond romesco, plump cherry tomatoes, all delicately drizzled with basil olive oil and served with toasted sourdough.

Pesto Bianco Flatbread is a great sharing plate topped with asparagus, baby arugula, ricotta, parmesan and mozzarella. While salads can be simple, Alfie’s doesn’t skimp on the creativity when it comes to their takes with selections such as the Crispy Karaage Buffalo Chicken salad, which is playfully mixed with tomato, corn, cucumber, carrot and crumbles of bleu cheese, all sprinkled in a green goddess dressing. Sandwiches and Burgers are true highlights with the Alfie’s Grass Fed Beef Burger, which features sauteed portobello mushrooms, gruyere and crispy shallots placed between two buttery buns.

There is also a Build Your Own Burger option with a choice of beef or turkey and toppings such as bacon, avocado, bleu cheese, cheddar gruyere, mushrooms and crispy shallots. For Entrées the Classic Fish & Chips with beer battered halibut offers the quintessential crunch, served with mushy peas, preserved lemon, caper berries and a large pile of hand-cut or sweet potatoes fries.

While Char Grilled Steak Frites are tender and juicy, made with 12oz. brant beef NY strip in a peppercorn sauce and served with hand-cut fries. The restaurant also spotlights a number of seasonal weekly specials with current choices like the Crispy Kaitafi Shrimp with a chorizo aioli or the Pan Seared Diver Scallop Salad, plump scallops that cut like butter sit upon arugula, smashed cucumbers, avocado, watermelon, heirloom tomato, red onion and sunflower seeds, lightly dressed with an orange rosemary vinaigrette to add a hint of citrus.
